Hybrid Gaming Machines – Commission position

15/01/2013

The Commission wishes to make it clear that if any machine consists of both games of skill and games of chance, that the machine is considered to be a gaming machine, the category of which is determined by the level of stake and/or prize. So, for example, if the maximum stake is £1 and/or the maximum prize is £70 then it is a category C gaming machine and if the maximum stake is £2 and/or the maximum prize is £500 it is a category B3 gaming machine.

A machine which contains a number of different games which can each be chosen by the player is usually called a terminal. This differentiates them from a machine with a single game on it. Terminals offer players a choice of games usually in the form of a menu screen and sometimes they have games of different categories upon them, category B3, C and D for example and now skill games as well. Occasionally multiple menu screens may be used so anyone examining the terminal should check all possible games upon it.
