Last FM: the Ultimate V-Hub Recommendation

11/01/2012

Sound Leisure has announced a ground-breaking deal with global music discovery service, Last.fm. The pioneering venture gives VHub customers access to key Last.fm features using the jukebox touch screen interface.

Last.fm is a free online music service that enables millions of users to effortlessly keep track of the music they play through a process called “scrobbling”. Users can ‘Scrobble’ to Last.fm from a wide range of devices and players including popular websites sites such as Spotify, smart phones, iPods and iPhones, home entertainment systems, games consoles and PCs.

SL’s Mike Black commented “As a music vendor it is important Sound Leisure understand the reasons why services such as Last.fm are so successful. We’re keen to identify features and partnerships which offer our customers a more engaging experience and Last.fm certainly met that criteria, so we were delighted when they agreed to work with us.”

The Last.fm VHub application enables customers to quickly and easily isolate all their favourite music from the 30,000 track VHub music library. Track selections can be made directly from the app which mirrors the Last.fm online experience by arranging tracks in to ‘top artists’, ‘top tracks’ and ‘loved tracks’ categories. Customers also receive track, artist and gig recommendations through the application and have the ability to view friends’ profiles or view the track selections of other VHub customers.

Black added “For the first time we’re able to provide customers with dynamic and immediate link between the music experience they have at home or on the move and bring it straight in to the venue they’re visiting. Within the application is the most powerful search feature ever seen on a jukebox, just tap in your Last.fm user name and we’ll automatically display everything on VHub that you already love, plus recommendations for new music Last.fm knows you’ll love but haven’t heard yet.”

From the venues viewpoint the Last.fm application offers a simple route to creating a social network based around the music played in the venue, automatically populated on the fly by the VHub jukebox. SL believes the functionality offers all venues a quick and simple route to exploring the world of social networking and extends their reach to customer’s homes and mobile devices.

The VHub application takes advantage of the ‘V-Apps’ systems which enables small stand alone applications to be quickly integrated in to the sophisticated VHub jukebox interface. The Last.fm application is the first example of a V-App which takes licensed data from third party partner to enhance the jukebox experience.

Black added “This application represents another giant step forward for VHub and jukeboxes in general. Last.fm is a massive music brand which appeals to a wide demographic with diverse music tastes. The ability to access Last.fm profiles directly from a jukebox is a great combination which can only help attract new users to VHub. “

The Last.fm VHub application was developed in-house by Sound Leisure and will be uploaded free of charge to all VHub jukeboxes after the official launch at January’s EAG.
