Gambling Lawyers set up specialist practice

26/10/2011

Leading licensing lawyers, Andrew Woods and Paddy Whur have launched WoodsWhur, a specialist licensing law practice dealing with all aspects of alcohol, entertainment, gambling, taxi law and regulation.

With 40 years’ combined experience, most recently leading the licensing team at commercial law firm Walker Morris, Woods and Whur have established a reputation for offering down to earth advice whilst conducting their own advocacy; a seamless transition from instruction to hearing that has led to consistent praise in the sector.  The duo took the decision to establish the specialist law firm to build on their successful personal and attentive approach to clients, whilst ensuring a competitive edge against other practices in the sector.

Comments Woods: “Competitor analysis has revealed that now is the perfect time to launch a firm with fresh vision.  Having seen the successes of others in the past, we feel our personalities, considerable experience and legal skills give us the edge in delivering commercial legal advice that gives our clients the edge in the market.  Our fee structure is also extremely competitive as we have invested in a bespoke practice management system.”

Whur adds: “We have regularly advised clients to challenge boundaries and have delivered to allow them to take commercial advantage over their competitors.  This has included challenging Cumulative Impact Policies, applying for later hours and splitting Gambling premises to allow greater machine allowance.

“With huge challenges to the leisure sector on the horizon, with the Police and Social Responsibility Act and the Policing and Crime Act, we feel the timing is right to bring our client relationship and advocacy skills together through a specialist legal support service.”

It as been my understanding that the Coin-opcommunity as been set up to talk about happenings in the amusements sector of our industry, it seems that this company represents bookmakers and such, in fact it was successful in fighting Star Amusements who were applying for a certain license for their arcades, I always look at the bookmaking sector of the industry as an enemy, after all it is this sector that is killing the traditional pub and arcade sector of the industry, and should be treated as such.

In the States the casino and gambling industries are so big that there are publications such as The Casino Lawyer that represents that sector of the industry exclusively.

The above is purly the view of the writer.
