Casino proposed for the Birmingham NEC

A new entertainment and leisure complex in Birmingham would include a casino, plans for the development have revealed.

Genting Casinos UK are behind the idea – known as Resorts World at The NEC – which would see shops, cafes and restaurants built at the NEC site overlooking Pendigo Lake. A spa and conference/banqueting centre also make up part of the proposal, as does a casino. It is believed around 1,100 jobs would be created should the seven-floor, 538,195 sq ft development go ahead.

Project spokesman Tim Rudman said of the plans: “We have launched the proposals as part of our pre-planning application for an exciting £120m leisure and entertainment complex. Resorts World will be a major driver in the NEC strategy which is to bring new hospitality, accommodation, food, beverage and retail to the NEC site.”

The Genting Group own Circus, Maxim, Electric and Mint casinos across Britain, including three in Birmingham.
