Sceptre picks up £1.5m Thwaites contract

23/03/2011

Gaming machine operator Sceptre Leisure has picked up a new £1.5m contract with pub chain Daniel Thwaites plc (The two year deal will see Sceptre supply more than 450 machines to around 50% of Thwaites’ managed and tenanted estate. It follows a contract win last month for Sceptre to supply 200 machines to Cardiff-based brewer SA Brains.

Ken Turner, Sceptre’s chief executive (pictured) said: “The new Thwaites deal underlines the close working relationship developed between our two companies over more than twelve years and we are delighted to be able to continue this association. Coupled to our recent contract win for new business from Brains, I believe this demonstrates that Sceptre continues to offer the most innovative and customer-focused coin-op solutions available to pub operators across the UK.”

Sceptre is the second-largest operator of amusement machines in the UK, and the only national operator to offer-fully manned depots in all areas of the country. In the six months to October 2010, group revenue fell by 7.1% to £19.7m and pre-tax profits were down 33% to £0.6m. Profits were largely impacted by costs connected to asset acquisitions and disposals.

Last November the company acquired the machine assets and operations of RV Smith (Leisure) Ltd in a deal worth £1.2m. That purchase added 925 machines in 277 leisure sites to Sceptre’s portfolio and strengthened its presence in the south of England. The deal followed the acquisition of Australian 8 Ball Ltd in December 2009.
