William Hill shareholders rebel over pay

09/05/2018 | No comments

William Hill’s shareholders have rebelled over boardroom pay, with over 30 per cent rejecting a rise for chief executive Philip Bowcock.

In the betting firm’s AGM on Tuesday, almost a third of ballots were cast voting against the remuneration report that detailed a 9.1 per cent pay rise for Bowcock.

Last year, his total pay rose from £600,000 to £1.3m.

The move follows on from Institutional Shareholder Services advising investors to vote against the report.

Addressing the concerns in a statement, William Hill said: “The Board remains of the view that the processes followed and the decision taken in 2017 was appropriate and can be justified in the context of the key events and industry challenges of last year, many of which are ongoing.

“The Board remains firmly committed to maintaining an open dialogue with shareholders and advisory bodies on key remuneration decisions in 2018 and beyond. This includes the commitment already made to further engage prior to the grant of awards under the Performance Share Plan for the 2018 financial year.”

William Hill is now on a public register of firms in which more than 20 per cent of shareholders have voted against a resolution.

Leading cash handling equipment manufacturer Innovative Technology Ltd (ITL) is pleased to announce Bank of England (BoE) certification for their note validator range.

The NV9 Spectral & NV200 Spectral, NV9, NV10 and NV200 banknote validators all received a 100% result for their ability to accept authentic banknotes and reject counterfeits. The test was conducted using notes from all GB issuing banks, from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Andy Bullock, Senior Business Development Manager commented, “Having just launched the NV9 Spectral at ICE 2018, this is the first time our newest unit has received Bank of England approval. The 100% result demonstrates the high-level of security and reliability of our products. We value the importance of collaborating with the BoE. Their support allows us to ensure our currency datasets are always up to date, something which has been even more important recently with the introduction of the new polymer banknotes. We will ensure that the new polymer £20, due to enter circulation in 2020 is incorporated into our GBP currency dataset well in advance of its introduction through our co-operation with the BoE.”

The full results for the testing of automatic banknote handling machines can be found on the BoE website here.

Anticipating a change in B2 stakes by Nick Harding

04/04/2018 | No comments

So, finally we are into a period of anticipation, expectation, and general nervous tension. The Consultation Document on Gaming Machine stakes and prizes has run its course, responses from many stakeholders on both sides of the argument were no doubt eloquently and forcefully delivered and the Gambling Commission subsequently issued their considered advice to the DCMS, or more specifically to the Gambling Minister Tracey Crouch and the Secretary of State Matt Hancock. Many stakeholders were surprised/disappointed/frustrated/delighted (delete as appropriate depending on which industry sector you are aligned with) that the Commission has seemed to duck the issue and has advised the government that something under £30 would be acceptable (or words to that effect).

So now we wait. There are rumours that something will happen on April 9th (but which April 9th?), although personally I would be surprised if the DCMS released their recommendation for an SI before government returns from its recess which will be April 16th at the earliest. But we will get an announcement and I will be very surprised if the recommendation isn’t substantially below £30, but we will have to wait and see. We will then go into an extended period before the SI can be voted on and then the date for whatever changes are agreed will have to be agreed with the relevant software games and systems suppliers. Those guys will of course want to drag out the date of implementation of whatever changes are required and again my sense would be a full implementation date sometime in early 2019.

Sega Exhibits Ticket Time at DEAL

28/03/2018 | No comments

Sega will showcase the hit redemption game Ticket Time on booth Z1-E18 at DEAL show. The Dubai Entertainment Amusements & Leisure (DEAL) show is the biggest trade event for the amusements and attractions industry in the Middle East and is set to take place on 9Th to 11th of April.

Developed by Smart Industries Ticket Time is the latest game to make headline news for top income performance. The gameplay is straightforward, simply collect as many bundles of tickets as possible using the joystick to control the crane claw.

Ticket Time’s eye-catching cabinet features LED-lit front panels where the operator can choose the colour that best fits their location. The games unique selling point is the ticket bundles are embedded with RFID so operators can re-use the ticket bundles while awarding the player actual or e-tickets. But what makes Ticket Time so successful is its massive player appeal and its operational accuracy and reliability. Having tested in various FEC’s and arcades, the game has proven to be a dominant game in this category.

Ticket Time is versatile giving operators the opportunity to set up the game on either ‘Coin-In and Ticket Out’ or ‘Swipe Card and Ticket Out’ or ‘Swipe Card and E-ticket Out’. The game is available in 31” single player format and 61” two payer cabinet. Sega will exhibit the 31” single player game at DEAL on booth Z1-E18.

The DEAL show has continued to go from strength to strength over the years. Now with business optimism and investment opportunities back on the rise, this year’s show is expected to be even better. DEAL brings together thousands of industry professionals, buyers and suppliers to network, share ideas and experience the most innovative products on the market.
